Welcome, into my universe!

Hi, my name is Bob, and I am an astroparticle physicist and science communication enthousiast, looking to advance society supported with scientific insights

Currently I’m PhD researcher at the department of Physics and Astronomy at the Ghent University. I joined the Experimental Particle Physics research group where I work on ice modelling and the calibration of the newly constructed and operational Radio Neutrino Observatory in Greenland. In addition, I even got the chance to join the RNO-G deployment team in the Summer of 2022 on an arctic expedition to the Greenlandic ice cap. Besides my research I also commit to teaching duties, reaching from guiding practice courses and labs to supervising a master student.

In 2019 I received my Master of Science in Physics and Astronomy at Ghent University, with international experiences at Stockholm University and the headquarter of the IceCube Collaboration in Madison, Wisconsin. I studied physics to get a better understanding on how the universe works. Because I also like to share this same passion with young minds, I later enrolled into the Academic Teachers Program, graduating in 2019 as well.

In my spare time I love to immerse myself in cultural activities. During my studies I participated in the Ghent University Choir both as a singer and a board member. Unfortunately, this has come to an end, and therefore I decided to use this experience to found a new choir within Ghent University for its personnel and alumni. In the meantime I embarked on a new adventure as an actor in a musical. Besides my interest in music, I also spend time at the Ghent University Museum in which I enrolled as part of the Museum Student Team but where I later became a guide and I even got the chance to assist in creating a new policy plan.

“If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music.”
